10D9N Spring Japan Trip: Sweets from Seibu Department Store, Ikebukuro
There is something about the food hall in Japanese department store. First, you start with an amazement. The next month, you started to feel overwhelmed as there are simply so many things that you feel like trying. The next moment, you realise that the Japanese does not seem to think a lot before they buy stuff. So before you know it, some popular items are already sold out by the time you reach the display case. Okay, since this happened to this cookie knowns as Sugar Butter Cookie, I suggest you start from this item if you visit Seibu Department Store food hall at Ikebukuro.
Some interesting stuff includes the cute patisserie. This one looks pretty big. I wonder what's the creme inside, hazelnut? coffee? chocolate? chestnut? You can only find out by buying them I guess but if the ladies behind the counter is not busy entertaining customer, they are always willing to help. Even though sometimes they cannot really speak English fluently.
How can a cake looks so...cuteeee??? This cake looks like some plush toys from the anime world.
Strawberry rolls looks so good. The Japanese seems to love roll cake as I often see this in every department store's food hall.
Some items are sold in package and you can't buy them individually. Just like, this cute owl's dorayaki.
The must have sweet in Japan during spring is none other than sakuramochi. This Japanese sweet consists of sweet pink-colored rice cake (re: mochi) with a red bean paste (re: anko) center and wrapped in a pickled cherry blossom leaf.
