Gitgit Waterfall, a beauty in North Bali
Being an Indonesian, I have visited Bali on a numerous occasions. However, I always visited the more popular destinations like Kuta, Seminyak, Jimbaran and Uluwatu. I have never ventured into the Northern part of Bali. This time around, my travelling partner is willing to go off the beaten path and our first destination is to visit Gitgit Waterfall, a beauty in North Bali.
Gitgit Waterfall is located in the plateau area and the surrounding of Gitgit Waterfall is so cozy because the area is surrounded by a lot of greens. The Balinese is very religious so it is normal to spot a praying altar on the way to the waterfall.
My friend spotted and took a beautiful picture of the incense. While me, on the other hand, keep on looking at the waterfall while following the walkway down to the waterfall. I guess I should start paying more attention to small things in my life. Hehehe.
Gitgit Waterfall was opened for tourism in the year 1975. Fodors mentions that the waterfall is nearly 160 feet (48 meters) high and it takes about an hour to climb down then up the 150 steps to it. Since Gitgit Waterfall has become a famous tourist destination in North Bali, you will see a lot of food vendors and souvenir stalls opening for business near the waterfall.
If you don't mind the walk, you can continue further to reach the smaller waterfall nearby called Colek Pamor. I personally prefer Colek Pamor Waterfall because it feels so hidden and yet, so magical. If you want to feel like you own the place, do come early around 8.30 - 9AM.
To go to Gitgit Waterfall and Colek Pamor Waterfall, it may be easier to arrange for a local day tour so that you can also visit other popular destinations in North Bali. Alternatively, you can opt to hire a driver + car for a day and you can create your own itinerary and include Gitgit Waterfall as one of your to-visit-places during the day. We opted for the second option as it gives us more flexibility in our travel planning.
