10D9N Spring Japan Trip: Totoro Cream Puff

I know that it is normal for everyday to hunt for food that they really want to try when they travel overseas. In the case of my high school friend's food hunt, she hunted high and low for a cute food in Japan named Totoro Cream Puff. I looked at her with a degree of skepticism. I mean, how can you make a Totoro in cream puff version?

Apparently one is possible at Shirohige's Cream Puff Shop.

Shirogihe's Cream Puff is actually belonged to one of the family member of Hayao Miyazaki, the creator of many great animation movie at Studio Ghibli. The small bakery is not easy to find and there are times where we really needed to ask people nearby, including a police officer. Shirogihe's Cream Puff is tucked away in a residential street and hence, this makes finding it kinda challenging. However, our effort did not turn into waste as we were able to secure the last two cream puffs of the day (nearly left with broken heart, really).

The cream puffs are delicious and delicate just like other Japanese pastries. The cream puff with the leave decoration has classic vanilla cream as the filling while the cream puff with the sakura petal has strawberry cream. There are two other flavors which are banana and chocolate cream. As the cream puff is very popular, you may want to consider coming here very early during the day. One cream puff costs 440 Japanese Yen.

Where is Shirohige's Cream Puff Shop located?

The shop is located within 3 minutes walk from Setagayadaita Station or 7 minutes walk from either Shimokitazawa or Shindaita Station on the Inokashira line. I suggest to use your Google map from the station to find the way to the shop.

10D9N Spring Japan Trip: Donguri Kyowakoku Solamachi Store, Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree is the latest television broadcasting tower and landmark of Tokyo. Situated in Sumida City Ward, the 634 meters tower if the tallest building in Japan. There is a large shopping mall and aquarium at the base of Tokyo Skytree. Due to its height and the angle it is viewed from below, it is extremely difficult for us to pose with Tokyo Skytree, really. Hahaha.

One particular store which is located at the entrance of Tokyo Skytree intrigued us. Why is this the case? Donguri Kyowakoku Solamachi Store (that's a long name for a store) is selling a lot of merchandises inspired from Studio Ghibli's characters like Totoro from the classic movie, My Neighbour's Totoro.

You can find a big stuffed Totoro sleeping peacefully inside a tree bough inside the store. That looks pretty cozy indeed.

Other than stuffed toys, you can also find other souvenirs such as face tower. I don't think I have the heart to use this really. Hahaha.

This particular corner inside Donguri Kyowakoku Solamachi Store is very cute. If my house is big enough, I would totally put this in the corner of my private garden. Together with my dream bonsai garden.

Other than Totoro, you can also find Jiji, the talking cat from the movie, Kiki's Delivery Service. There are handkerchieves and gift cloth wrapper featuring Jiji. I do wonder though, do people still carry handkerchief nowadays?

Aww...the cutesy dust bunnies from My Neighbour's Totoro. I ended up buying this cute dust bunnies pin. I haven't used it until today though. LOL.

The grinning cat, the Catbus (well, it did serve as a bus in My Neighbour's Totoro), can be spotted inside the store too. I don't think it is for sale though.

Donguri Republic at ATT4, Taipei City Hall

There is a new fun concept store opened at ATT4, one of the shopping centres located at Taipei City Hall area. If you are a fan of Hayao Miyazaki's work, you will love this store very much. Welcome to Donguri Republic, a store specialising in all kinds of goods and products inspired by the artworks of Hayao Miyazaki.

Well, the opening of Donguri Republic in Taipei is not actually unexpected considering how much the Taiwanese love basically anything Japanese, including Japanese manga and animation. In addition, the Taiwanese loves to collect cute stuffs and merchandises. So the existence of Donguri Republic in Taipei is really a good move from business perspective.

The store is really making your dream come true, especially if you are a fan of Studio Ghibli. In addition to the usual plush toys, you can find all kinds of merchandises featuring characters from the famous Studio Ghibli's movies like My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.

Clothes, puzzles, pots, cups and other household utensils which have Totoro on it? Oh my gawd, I think I'm going crazy soon. I was seriously so tempted to get at least one of the these lovely Totoro items but then, I remember I have nowhere to put my Totoro on. #smallroom #manystuffs

There are also a number of stationeries and story books inside Donguri Republic. Oh hey, look at my fingers. Hahaha, I am such a kid. Can't resist doing this kind of thing. LOL.

Donguri Republic is located at level B1 of ATT4 in Taipei City Hall. Due to the popularity of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's artwork in Taiwan, a crowd is expected inside the store especially on weekends. But, you should still come to Donguri Republic, it will be so worth it. And you will probably end up carrying a lot of stuff outside this store.
