Taiwan Eats: Where to eat at Taroko National Park?

After the 3/4 hours drive from the previous post, our driver suggested to bring us to the first of the only two restaurants/ resting stop along Taroko trail (according to the driver). It's only 11AM but we agreed with him because he managed to convince us that the second restaurant is usually very packed by the time we reach the place.

I guess it's time to fill in our tummy again. The restaurant is full with photos of beautiful sceneries in Taroko National Park.

The restaurant is not big but it's quite cozy. We were officially the first customers on that day.

You can buy snacks and tidbits like dried fruits, dried mushroom, koala biscuits and mountain tea leaves from the restaurant. The mushrooms are quite tasty but their expiration date do not last long.

A cup of hot black tea is always welcomed in chilly weather.

As we had a hefty breakfast at Misty Villa, we were not hungry yet when we reached the restaurant. So we shared the food amongst four of us. The below dish is black pepper beef while the top one is chicken and veggie. I prefer the beef.

The restaurant has some kind of a landmark, an old tree. I suppose we should name it the restaurant-with-a-very-old-tree-in-its-backyard?

Even the dogs in Taroko show some style in chilly weather. They have their own jackets!!!! Wow!!

With full tummy, our journey continues. I bet we will end up sleeping inside the cab within few minutes. Zzzz.

Taiwan Travel: Amazing Coastal View at Qingshui Cliff

In between Taroko Gorge and the city of Hualien, there lies the one of the most famous scenic view of Taiwan, Qingshui Cliff. It offers the best view of Taiwan's Pacific Coast.

If the right side is not beautiful enough, the left side also offers a beautiful shades of blue. I'm in love with the blues. ^^

Another view taken from different stop of the highway. It's really good that one of our travelling companion has a superb camera. The pictures turned out very beautiful. ^^

If you want to visit Qingshui Cliff, it is better to stay the night at Hualien. We stayed in Classic City Resort and the room has a quite good rate for a central location (walking distance from the railway station). You can check the hotel rates here.

I asked for help from the accommodation provider at Cingjing Farm, Misty Villa (see post) to arrange for the transport. If you are staying at the same accommodation, you may want to do the same because it's way easier to ask them to help arrange for you. Especially, if you speak little or no Mandarin at all.

Taiwan Travel: Beautiful Nature at Taroko Gorge, Hualien

After long hours of riding a car, we have finally arrived at the most famous location in Taroko, the Taroko Gorge and Eternal Spring Shrine Trail. Yippie!

If you go with tour, you will not make a stop at this location cause there's no way a bus can park nearby. You can only access this spot if you are either taking cab or mini bus. Btw, did you notice human face in this picture?

The right side of the rock cliff indeed resemble human face, right? Don't you agree?

Under the right side cliff, you can spot a cave and a road going into the cliff. The cab driver told us that the road was used to be part of hiking trail but it's no longer accessible now due to earthquake and landslide in recent months. Kinda scary, when you think of it.

After another 30 mins drive, we have reached another spot called Eternal Spring Shrine Trail. You will see a lot of tourists starting from here. Because this place is accessible by tour bus.

The Eternal Spring Shrine is one of the most picturesque landmark of the park and it is also served as memorials for war veterans.

I never know rocks can be picturesque. Hahaha.

There is a road went into the cave and if you continue walking you will see an altar for praying. If you walk further I suppose you can reach the shrine but none of us was adventurous enough to walk that far. =P

After we spent enough time walking around and enjoying the view, we hopped back into the cab to go to our next destination, Hualien. See you in Hualien! ^^

Taiwan Travel: Yue Fei Pavilion, Taroko National Park

I had to admire the taxi driver for not falling asleep together with us. Hahaha. He woke us up when we reached one of the touristy spots in Taroko National Park, Yue Fei Pavilion. Just a bit of background, Yue Fei is a great general and national hero of the Southern Song Dynasty. His famous quote is "If officials do not like money and generals do not fear death, the world will be in peace." I kinda agree with the first part but the second part, does that mean more war???

The whole great story of Yue Fei happened in China. The pavilion is simply named after him, and hence it's called Yue Fei Pavilion.

There is a suspension bridge near the pavilion. It looks quite scary.

This is the view from the bridge. I did not cross over because it was pretty scary.

Our cab driver is waiting for us near the main road. If you happen to be here, go take a look at the view at the other side of the bridge.

There are more beautiful scenery to see in Taroko National Park. So, we hopped back into our cab and continue our journey. Exciting! ^^
