If there is a library somewhere in the world which let you read thousand of books about dim sum, would you be willing to visit the library? Hmm, I would probably consider it if I can eat what I read in the books. Good for you, that there is such a place in Hong Kong and it is called the Dim Sum Library. Do you think I am joking for a moment?

4D Hong Kong Foodie Trip: Dim Sum Library, Pacific Place

Dim Sum Library is a modern dim sum restaurant and they are not afraid of incorporating fancy ingredients into the classic Cantonese dim sum. The restaurant is designed in such a dark and the great gatsby-ish style, it kinda makes you feel that you are indeed dining in one of the poshest dim sum establishments in Hong Kong.

Well, one glance into the menu, we know that the price tag of the dim sum dishes in Dim Sum Library is definitely higher than those neighbourhood dim sum restaurants that we have tried so far. Since lunch is gonna be over at 3PM and it is already 2PM+, we quickly scrolled down the menu which kinda looks like a collection of library scrolls. If you can't decide, you may want to check out the menu listed under Chef's Recommendation. But then again, we are kinda the rebel type and we rather trust our own intuition than following the chef's suggestion. The menu is divided into cheong fun (rice rolls), dim sum, rice/ noodles and vegetarian dishes. We saw some interesting items from the menu and we decided to order those quirky items for our lunch today. After all, living an ordinary life is so boring, we have to be daring sometimes. #suddenlyhaveguts

We ordered 5 dim sum items and 1 rice dish to share amongst the three of us. The Iberico pork spring onions cheung fan (HKD 68) made a good starter although R5 commented that she could not really differentiate between normal char siew (pork) and the iberico pork. I suppose she has a point because all pork cheung fan in Hong Kong really taste so good.

The black truffle har gau shrimp dumplings (HKD 42 for three) gives us unique flavour, with juicy prawns giving way to hints of truffle. The usual clear skin of the har gau is replaced by dotted skin which is caused by the specks of the fungus. I do prefer the usual har gau somehow. Maybe, it's like what the saying goes, if it ain't break, don't change it?

The next dish, the black garlic siu mai pork dumplings (HKD 48 for four), looks normal like siu mai sold at other dim sum places but the quirk side of this pork dumplings lies in the filling because you will find a whole piece of black garlic inside the siu mai. While it is indeed interesting to eat garlic together with the pork dumplings, my opinion of don't change it unless it breaks remain.

Another fun rendition of the fried dim sum dish is the wagyu beef puff with black pepper (HKD 68 for three). The beef puff taste a bit like char siew pastry but you replace the char siew filling with the black pepper wagyu beef. The flavour of the beef is rich and pepperish and it's quite yummy to consume while they are still hot.

Fried rice or noodles are the best carb dishes to go with the dim sum dishes. The iberico pork fried rice with sakura shrimps and fennel seeds (HKD 158) thankfully did not disappoint us. I love how the sakura shrimps add some oomphs to the iberico pork fried rice. The addition of the cucumber is rather interesting though as I seldom see cucumber in my fried rice, to be honest with you.

Can you believe we have not gotten our taste of Hong Kong egg tarts yet? That would be considered a sin if go through our 2nd day in this island without tasting any egg tarts. Classic egg tarts (HKD 42 for three) from Dim Sum Library taste so good with the exact degree of sweetness combined with the right flaky texture of the crusts. I could not get my mind to decide if I prefer the version of Portuguese egg tarts or Hong Kong classic egg tarts but I suppose I will eat both of these version anyway since I am such a glutton with a deep passion for egg tarts. #unglam

If you still have some space in your tummy, I think you will be tempted to try out one of these beautiful eclairs sold by L'eclair de Genie which is also located inside Pacific Place, one of the newest shopping malls in Admiralty area. We would love to get one but none of us can accommodate anymore food in our tummy. Sad.
