Singapore Eats: Executive Lunch Set at Level 33, Marina Bay Financial Centre

It's not everyday we are going for a celebration on a weekday lunchtime. But today is different, it's my best friend/ colleague's birthday. So there's a reason to celebrate and hence, there's a reason to go to finally go to Level 33.

Level 33 is a name of a restaurant (and not an office level in our office building, obviously) located at Marina Bay Financial Centre, Tower 1. There is a lift at level 1 of tower 1 which goes directly to the restaurant at level 33. The restaurant offers a semi-buffet set menu at lunch time (i.e. executive set lunch). Basically when you selected a main course, it comes with an access to the buffet bar for the cold meats like salmon, ham, smoked beef and prawns.

In addition to the meats, you will also have an access to the salad and pasta bar.

The main course selection is usually a total of 5 dishes. The three fixed one are the fish and chips, beef sandwich and beef burger. While the other two are changed weekly. The fish and chips looks rather interesting as the fried fish is served...bent. Now this is my first time eating a bended fried fish.

The next main course is one of the weekly dish, it's a seafood linguine served in arabiatta sauce.

The beef patty in the beef burger is very big. But it looks kinda dry though. I guess it's because my friend ordered a well done patty.

Overall, the taste of the main course is so-so. However, if you are a big eater, you will probably have fun taking the appetiser, cold meat and dessert from the semi-buffet bar. The executive lunch set runs from 11.30pm - 2pm and it costs S$33++ per pax. A reservation is required because the restaurant is usually packed with well..executives working in the neighbourhood.

Singapore Eats: Ahoy British Fish & Chips at Smiths, Boat Quay

While we were wandering around Boat Quay, we spotted Smiths who claims to serve the authentic British fish and chips. Having studied in Newcastle before, I am quite interested to see an authentic British fish and chips in the island of Singapore. After psyching my walking buddy, we decided to give it a try.

Smiths is located alongside Boat Quay and if you can secure an al-fresco table, you can dine while enjoying the view of Singapore River.

I remember back in the UK, the choice of fish for fish and chips is either haddock or cod. Both are quite affordable in the UK but here, in Singapore, both fishes cost a bomb. The standard cod and haddock fish costs S$19.50. But since there's no way the fish & chips is gonna be authentic if we order dory, we decided to give haddock fish & chips a try. Look wise, it's pretty close to the real ones which I used to eat in UK but the taste is not really as good. Although I notice that there is less oil spotted on this Singapore version. The one I ordered in a fish & chips kiosk in Newcastle always drenched in oil (and hence, yummy?). #goforoilyfishandchips

We also ordered Chicken and Mushroom Pie to try. Taste quite so-so. It costs S$9.50 and it is served with thick fries too just like the fish and chips.

There are some unique desserts sold at Smiths such as battered MARS bars. If your heart cannot take it, alternatively, you can hang out at the neighboring The Connoiseur Concerto (TCC).

Singapore Eats: Fried Seafood Stuff at Swensen's, Plaza Singapura

After eating too much Japanese food at Tokyo Walker in Plaza Singapura, my friend voiced out that she wanted to eat Western food. The first thought that I have in my mind about Western food is Astons (after the yummy salmon fillet that I had at Astons Prime). And then, we spotted Swensen's at one of the levels at Plaza Singapura. As usual, spurred by spontaneity, we decided to just go in and try Swensen's Western food.

I sticked to the fish and chips, which I think is the easiest dish to prepare on every restaurant's menu. Swensen's fish and chips is not bad but not fantastic either.

My friend decided to be one level more adventurous than me, she decided to order a seafood platter which consist of fried fishes, fried calamaris, and fried shrimps. Other than the additional calamaris and shrimps, our plate basically look the same. #theregoesouradventure

Swensen's put a heavier price tag on its food compared to...uhh...probably 5 years ago? That kinda hinders us to keep coming back to Swensen's because their food are actually so-so. But I guess as the living cost arising in Singapore every year, the price increase is kinda inevitable.

Singapore Eats: Fish and Chips at Fish & Co., Paragon

Back in uni days, I always eat fish and chips at least once a week because fish and chips sold in UK is freaking fantastic. And oily. And cheap. And duh, which students don't eat fish and chips in UK?

Now, working my ass in Singapore, fish and chips is...an expensive meal!!! *cry*

I suppose I should be grateful that I can still find fish and chips quite easily in Singapore. Although, I have to pay extra for this meal. #bosspleaseraisemysalary

Okay, enough ranting while waiting for my fish and chips.

Fish & Co. sells yummy fish and chips and the restaurant offers fish and chips cooked in various way. In fact, they call their menu "Fish & Chips from Around the World". The difference mainly lies on the sauce. Well, one look at the flag, you will know that I ordered Swiss fish & chips (do the Swiss eat fish & chips?) which is described as "fish and chips filled with tasty cheese topped with garlic lemon butter sauce".

I love the texture of the crispy fried fish offered at Fish & Co. If the price tag is lower, I probably can eat this weekly (oh gosh, the calorie!). I suppose I will be back probably...in a few months down the road. Hahaha.

Singapore Eats: Pique Nique, Ngee Ann City

Eating inside a shopping mall is not what I imagine as having a so-called "pique nique" (or picnic) but anyway, the hot weather (or sometimes heavy downpour) outside the buildings in Singapore often makes me walk back inside the comfortably air-conned shopping malls. And hence, here we are, having an indoor picnic at Pique Nique. #guiltyascharged

Other than those items listed in the menu, Pique Nique also sells their homemade cookies and jams.

For starter, we ordered mac and cheese.

For the mains, we ordered fish and chips.

I find their food is on the so-so category but I guess if you run out of options to eat in Ngee Ann City, you can consider having a picnic at Pique Nique. The restaurant is located at level B1 of Ngee Ann City, just opposite KFC.
