How much calories does a bowl of the Daily Cut have?

Everytime there’s a long queue upon one particular restaurant, my curiosity is piqued. I wonder if this is the trait that I develop after residing in Singapore for many years or human is just a curious creature. But without a fail, a long and snaking Q is always formed at the Daily Cut around lunch time and even late after 8PM. Despite many other F&B sell similar concept of healthy bowl, the Daily Cut seems to be the champion that trump them all, at least it terms of queue line.

Since they look so healthy and popular, I bought them on a few occasion and I think these healthy bowls turn out to be delicious. And that’s probably the reason of the long Q. So since I’m no longer curious on how does the healthy bowl from the Daily Cut taste, my curiosity is now focused on how much calories contained in one healthy bowl of the Daily Cut?

But then again, the concept of healthy bowl in the Daily Cut is pick and mix, so I suppose the calorie content will really depend on the choice made by each customer. Right, so let’s see what did I pick from the latest summer menu from the Daily Cut: A petite bowl consisting of purple sweet potatoes (base), orange chicken breast (protein), broccoli and tahini peanut eggplant (supplements), parmesan breadcrumbs (toppings) and peri peri dressings (which is provided in separate container, thankfully).

With the help of kitchen scale which I bought from Daiso at 2SGD + myfitnesspal app, I tried to find the closest equivalent to items which I pick for my bowl above. Here goes the calorie:

120 grams of purple sweet potatoes: 103 cal
80 grams (2.8 oz) of grilled eggplant: 77 cal
100 grams of grilled chicken breast: 131 cal
180 grams of fresh steamed broccoli: 51 cal

I did not bother to check the calorie from the parmesan breadcrumbs and peri peri sauce though because I find it a bit of a hassle and I figure the calorie from these two items won’t be substantial since the Daily Cut does not give a lot of crumbs and sauce. But if you’d like to include them in measurement, maybe it’s gonna be another 50 cal, tops?

With that taken into consideration, total calorie from my order will come at 412 cal.

To be honest with you, I’m kinda surprised with this calculation because I expect my order to reach 500 cal. I wonder if we can treat the petite bowl of the Daily Cut to be around 500 cal max. Maybe I should measure it again when I order brown rice or whole wheat pasta as base.

I’m gonna start today’s post randomly. I mistook someone in the pantry for my own colleague. In my defense, there are a lot of baldy slim Asian guy out there and all of them seem to be in dire need of caffeine. But it’s probably time for me to buy myself a good pair of glasses. Hmm, but if I do that, I have to live frugally in terms of food expense. Aw, shucks!

Anyway, since reality is kinda brutal, let’s check out another instagrammable café in Taiwan, Cheevit Cheeva. I found out online that this café is actually originated from Thailand. The original café is located on the banks of Kok river in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand. Chiang Rai, hmm, that sounds like Chiang Mai and Chiang Mai kinda annoyed me although it’s actually not the area’s fault. My ex-crush used to flirt with me and then decided to get hitched together with a Chiang Mai girl who happened to be his Airbnb’s host. What the heck is this sorcery. Oh well, it’s probably love. Or black magic. I don’t wanna know.

Hmm, it seems today I easily digress from one topic to another. Oh well, since Chiang Mai is definitely off my bucket list, it’s a great news that there is Cheevit Cheeva café located in Taipei. The café focuses on beautiful snow ice flake (or also known as bingsut in Korea), cakes and many pretty drinks. It seems that it’s very well known for its Blueberry thai milk tea bingsut as there are many Insta user posting the dessert. Cheevit Cheeva also seems to offer a variety of unordinary bingsut. For instance, there is one which seem to be served with a huge amount of whipped cream on top plus pretty pearls which I often see used for boba. Online users in Tripadvisor raved about Cheevit Cheeva’s snow ice flake which they claim to be incredibly soft and melt in their mouth perfectly. It does not seem to be as sweet as it looks which is a good thing. Oh gosh, now I feel like popping ice flake into my mouth but the only thing I have in the fridge right now is ice cubes. Oh wait, I don’t think office fridge have ice cubes in the first place. Sadz.

If you prefer to have a drink instead, Cheevit Cheeva have a variety of fruit soda and also yoghurt based drink. @hisonja2578 uploaded a picture of shibuya toast completed with a scoop of ice cream on top so I figure that Cheevit Cheeva has shibuya toast as well. Online review mentions that the toast is very soft and have croissant-like texture. That must go so well with the ice cream. Yumz.

Cheevit Cheeva café is located within walking distance from Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall MRT station so do give them a visit if you are nearby. The café looks so pretty and cozy and it definitely makes the list to one of Taiwan instagrammable food. It opens daily from 10AM to 11PM. Alternatively, other than Taipei, you will only be able to visit the café in Bangkok and oh well, Chiang Rai.

The best hotel that I stayed during my 8D tour to Japan with Avia Tour is definitely Hida Plaza Hotel Takayama. I was quite surprised actually cause I don’t really have any expectation of the hotel to be so nice. We reached the hotel around 5-ish and we are given either tatami or normal Western bedroom. Tatami bedroom does not come cheap in Japan so I was kinda excited to find out that we had been assigned the tatami room. However, the funny thing is since there are three of us, my mum, my bro and I, it seems that we have a combination of Western bed and futon bed. So they only did the futon for one person hahaha. I suppose we would have to draw a lot to decide who’s the lucky person then.

There are complimentary snacks given on the top of the tea table in front of the TV. The snacks are traditional Japanese sweets made from red bean. They taste so good and they make a good pairing to green tea. Since we still had time to spare until dinner time around 6, my mum and I just lazed around in front of the TV while my bro took a nap since he didn’t feel well. You can go to onsen too but I prefer to go to onsen a bit later because I bet before dinner is considered peak hour for onsen.

The dinner that they give to per person is a set dinner and oh boy, it includes the locally famous Hida beef. Japanese dinner set always look so pretty and it usually consists of sashimi, tofu, miso soup, meat and rice. Hida Plaza Hotel Takayama gives us both Hida beef and grilled salmon and I was pretty happy about this meal.

After dinner, we took a quick walk to the souvenir shop located near the hotel lobby and we saw so many Sarubobo dolls. Sarubobo is the mascot of Takayama and Gifu area so you will see them a lot in this area. They even sell collaboration of Hello Kitty and Sarubobo. If you are a Hello Kitty fan, you should get it here because you won’t see it so often outside this area.

While the meal is good and the bedroom is fancy, what I like the most about Hida Plaza Hotel is their onsen. They have indoor and outdoor onsen although the outdoor one is not big and you can’t really see sky full of stars. The common shower area have divider so if you are uncomfortable sitting side-by-side to stranger openly while washing your body and hair, you probably won’t feel so self-conscious here because there’s divider between you and your next-door. You don’t have to carry your toiletries to the onsen because Hida Plaza Hotel put a lot of Shiseido products such as shampoo, soap, cleanser, and moisturizer in the bathing and hairdrying area. Thankfully, my first onsen experience with my mom was quite fun here at Hida Plaza Hotel Takayama. Yeay~
