Taiwan Travel: Fort San Domingo, Tamsui
There are so many things to see in Tamsui. After walking through the old street (see here), we have arrived at what originally was a seaside fort, Fort San Domingo (紅毛城/ Hóng máo chéng). You need to walk uphill to reach the fort. Oh my poor stamina. =(
It's not really a big fort but there are things to see inside. Like..cells? Hehehe.
My friend said she sensed something inside the cell. So if you are able to "see" or "feel" "something", probably you may want to skip peeking inside? =P
I wonder if the Spanish occupants at that times are able to cook paella here. The kitchen seems so small.
There is a small courtyard in the middle of the fort. This courtyard is used as an activity area for the prisoners. As there are only 4 prisons here, so I suppose they don't really need a big courtyard to walk around.
The safe used in that period to keep valuable things and important documents.
Spanish ship, which often dock here in those days, I suppose?
The occupancy of the fort has been changing over the history from the Spanish to the Dutch to the British. The last occupant, the British made it their trade consulate and painted it red. Apparently the fort was previously painted in white. Interesting, eh? =)
P.S. If you are lazy to walk along the old street, you can take a bus (Red 26, 36 or 38) from Tamsui MRT Station to Fort San Domingo.
