Taiwan Travel: Sunset View at Fisherman Wharf, Tamsui

The first time I tried to see sunset from Tamsui, New Taipei City, I came too early and hence the sun was still pretty bright when I captured the picture. This time around, I came after 6pm to Fisherman Wharf and yes, the sunset was pretty amazing.

The sun set rather quickly so you must take picture fast. Within few minutes, I could no longer see the sun anymore.

A lot of people are gathering to see the sunset view from Tamsui. After all, this is one of the most popular sites in Taiwan to do sunset watching.

The opposite Bali Island was having a celebration. I did not remember the exact festival but it happened that there was a firework burst in the evening sky when I clicked the shutter button on my camera. Love it!

What to do in Tamsui (Dan Shui), Taiwan?

If you can spare a day in your trip to Taipei, you can do a lot of things in Tamsui.

1. Visiting Fisherman Wharf

You can get on the Lover's Tower to see the beautiful view of the wharf. And once you are done with the ride, you can walk to Lover's Bridge where the famous Taiwanese drama called Meteor Garden was filmed. If you are adventurous enough, you can cycle from the MRT station to here.

2. Have a taste of local food at Tamsui Old Street

Wherever you are in Taiwan, you shall EAT. A LOT. No kidding, street food in Taiwan is awesome. Both in taste and price. You can try a lot of food from a-gei (tofu dish) to fried gyoza to cake to iron eggs (black eggs in Tamsui Old Street .

3. Visiting Fort San Domingo/ British Consular Residence

Tamsui has a lot of history as this part of Taiwan served as an important fort for the Spanish colony in the old age. If you are interested in looking at an old fort and old British residence, you can simply visit these two places as they are located next to each other.

4. Visiting (or even considering to study?) Aletheia University

Walk further up from British Consular Residence and you will reach a university. This university is quite special as it was established by a famous pastor in Tamsui. The pastor is not Taiwanese though. He's Canadian and he's called Mackay.

5. Looking at Pastor Mackay Statue and Church

If you are wondering about the identity of Pastor Mackay (and thus, history of Tamsui in general), you will see his status and his church alongside the main road of Tamsui.

Taiwan Travel: Lover's Tower, Tamsui

So this time around, I made my way to Fisherman's Wharf area in Tamsui. Oh boy, I was welcomed by the heart sign. =P

Just behind the sign, you'll see a tower which is called Lover's Tower. If you are thinking of riding the tower, I suggested you to go have lunch first (if you haven't had any, of course) at the next-door plaza called..

For a second, I thought I was back in Singapore. Hahaha.

The prices for the lunch here is kinda too much! But I was hungry like mad so I proceeded to order the beef noodle set meal which comes with a cup of cold milk tea and side dishes (300NTD goodness me). The purchase of a set meal however will give you a free ticket to ride the tower (hooray, save 100NTD!). Okay, I guess that's kinda consoling. Hahaha.

With a full stomach, I'm ready to ride the tower now. Simply go to the building with the sign.

And make your way up. Happy there's no queue that day. =)

The view of Fisherman's Wharf from the top is simply amazing. You must see!

How to go to Fisherman's Wharf:

From Tamsui MRT Station, you can ride Red Bus no. 26 to Fisherman's Wharf (漁人碼頭/ Yú rén mǎtóu).
