Hong Kong Eats: The Hungry Women are Back at Dao Xiang, Causeway Bay

I still remember the first time I came to Dao Xiang at Causeway Bay. I ate so much until my pants feel tight. Of course, that does not mean I have tried all the dim sum dishes that Dao Xiang has on its menu. So, with that self-justified excuse alone, my friend and I decided to return to Dao Xiang with a purpose...to try out its other dishes as far as our tummy allows. #gluttonattack

1. Fried Squid

Let my friend order and she surely will order fried stuff. In her defense, fried stuff will not go wrong. I can't deny her perfectly flawed reasoning. When you can't fight your challenge, you should just join hands and enjoy the bounty together. As I said, perfectly flawed. XD

2. Char Siew (BBQ Pork) Pastry

A must order in every dim sum house in Hong Kong. Period.

3. Sweet and sour pork

Sweet and sour to balance our tastebud after so many dim sum we have eaten during our stay in Hong Kong this round.

4. Crystal clear shrimp dumpling (har gaw)

A classic example of how looks can be deceiving. The crystal clear shrimp dumpling taste quite yummy despite the unconvincing appearance.

5. Chicken feet

I don't eat chicken feet so the whole dish went to my friend's tummy. She seems to be enjoying it to the maximum. So I suppose it's good.

6. Jelly osmanthus cake

Last but not least, a not-so-sweet jelly osmanthus cake to end our palate with. I wonder if this dessert can be categorised as healthy dessert. It contains red bean and yet it does not taste too sweet.

Hong Kong Eats: Another morning, another dim sum breakfast.

I have officially spent all my mornings in my Hong Kong trip doing one particular thing in common, eating dim sum. After a series of afternoons and nights trying out dim sum in various establishment like Luk Yu Eating House, Dao Xiang and Dim Sum Bar, we decided to just popping by at any random dim sum place near our hotel, Butterfly on Prat at Tsim Sha Tsui.

For a simple next door restaurant, the dim sum place sells quite a wide variety of traditional dim sum.

For a start, we ordered char siew bao (bbq pork Chinese buns). The texture is a bit rough but taste-wise, it's okay.

We also ordered a mixture of shao mai (pork dumplings) and har gaw (clear skin prawn dumpling). At this place, you can have both in one dim sum tray.

The cheung fun (rice noodle roll) looks kinda unappetising in texture, eh? I suppose appearance is not really the priority of this simple dim sum place. =P

To wash our dim sum down, we ordered soya milk. Yum! Totally feel the Cantonese breakfast here. Hehehe.

While this is not necessarily the best dim sum we had in Hong Kong, the price is quite cheap so I suppose we got what we paid.

Hong Kong Eats: Dim Sum Party at Dao Xiang, Causeway Bay

After we have wandering around Causeway Bay for the whole morning, my friend's cousins brought us to have a dim sum party at Dao Xiang. This kind of invitation will surely be gladly accepted. As all dim sum restaurants are so crowded on a Sunday lunch time, one of the cousins has booked a table in advance. In addition, he has started ordering food too! Xie xie!

The dim sum is very nice to eat and thanks to my friend's cousins, we have gained few kg(s) in Hong Kong. But it was totally worth the weight. #eattoenjoylife

Hong Kong Eats: Luk Yu Tea House, Central

Those of you who have been guessing from my last post will definitely see this coming, another dim sum food post. Hahaha.

Since Dim Sum Bar has the modern vibe, this time we are going to those old-tea-house style dim sum place, Luk Yu Tea House. The main door, interestingly, was guarded by a foreigner when we arrived. We thought we were at the wrong place. =P

The first floor is already fully occupied so we are ushered to the 2nd floor where there is still a lot of seats. The restaurant is fully manned by those mid-aged men who looks like they are in kungfu movie. I sense a HK-mafia-vibe here. But no worry, they still serve us politely despite their appearance. =P

We are so excited looking at the menu on our tables until we see this...traditional Chinese characters. Aughhh. Since it's gonna take us long time to read this menu, we ask if there's English menu instead and yeahhh, they have it. I love HK restaurants.

Overall, the dim sum taste more on the okay-ish side but if you want to get the vibe of eating dimsum inside tea house, you may want to pop by a visit (since it's not that crowded and all).

Now, please excuse me, I'm gonna eat them all. Hehehe.

Hong Kong Eats: Dim Sum Bar ( 點一龍), Harbour City

We are really really hungry when we reach Tsim Sha Tsui after our trip to the Peak. So we are so going to eat the most wonderful food in Hong Kong, DIM SUM (點心/ Diǎnxīn). Our pick of the night is Dim Sum Bar ( 點一龍/ Diǎn yī lóng) at Harbour City, a big shopping mall in Tsim Sha Tsui.

There is no queue line when we reach so we just simply come in and immediately get our table. It has English menu too so no worry about lost-in-translation issue here.

The next few pictures will be dim sum galore. You have been warned for its delicious content. =P

Okay I suppose I kinda know why I'm having a bit of problem fitting into my skinny pants after HK trip. All excused in the name of holiday. Hehe.
