Strawberry cake which is packed individually. It seems that strawberry cake is a popular item in Japan. A lot of anime and manga feature the dessert in the storyline. 

The glass display of New York Library confectionary is swarmed by customers. So, we were quite curious at what kind of products do they sell. If you like this brand, you better buy them fast because nearly all the items in the glass display are sold out. Crazy.

This snack named corocoro waffle looks pretty good. Looks like a nice gift to give to a nice friend, too.

Another row of strawberry cakes. The strawberry tarts do have a lot of strawberries on top of them. 

Another type of dessert which kinda makes me wonder if they are chewy like Australian's nougat or they are more similar to sponge cakes. Hmm, a mystery which can only be solved by trying some. 

Is anyone willing to give it a try?

Lady M offers both savoury and sweet dishes (which are mostly cakes, fyi). My cafe date has not had her lunch yet and hence, insisted that she must order something savory before she can enjoy the cakes. She ordered smoked duck panini which is served with chips and a small bits of coleslaw. I wish they give us more coleslaw seriously. On the other side, the smoked duck panini taste good though. 

But, my main goal to dine at Lady M New York is of course, the cakes. We ordered two slices of cakes. One is completely the opposite of another. 

The first cake looks completely distressed as its main ingredient is actually mousse. The mango mousse cake taste light kinda like those Japanese patisserie. Can't really taste the crispiness of the crust as it becomes pretty moist once you combine them with the mousse.

The next cake is actually one of the signature cake from Lady M New York (apart from the mille crepes which oh-my-gawd why we did not order). The cake is named Checkers and it really reminds me of those cake that I used to buy from the market when I was small. The price of the Checkers of Lady M is of course like 9x more expensive than that market snack. LOL. 

Oh right, taste wise, the mixture of cream and chocolate sponge cake works well and I enjoyed Checkers more than the Mango Mousse. 

How did the cakes fare? Let's start with the Mille Feuille (S$6.80). Chef Yamashita's Mille Feuille comes with raspberry jam on top tof the layers of puff pastry, layered with fresh cream, sliced strawberries and pineapples. There is a whole strawberry sitting nicely on top of the top crust of the mille feuille. We can taste the crispiness of the flaky layers despite the generous use of the fresh cream. Taste wise, the combination of fresh cream, flaky crust and pieces of strawberry works wonderfully together without being too heavy on our palette. 

Let's move along to the next cake on our plate, the Mt Fuji. Mt Fuji is a type of Mont Blanc cake. It is made with a generous amount of chestnut cream with chocolate sponge and chestnuts. Inside the cake, there is a piece of something taste like sweet potato. I prefer Mt Fuji compared to the Mille Feuille but my cake buddy prefer different. 

It is unbelievable but it is true that girls always have some space left in their stomach for another type of dessert. We tried the mango cream puff but unfortunately the cakes fare way better than this mango cream puff. Such a letdown. 

Oh well, let's end the lovely cake date with another pretty shot of my favourite Mt Fuji.

It seems that Dulcet & Studio serves Japanese style of cakes. We were in a huge dilemma deciding over a various choice of cakes available at Dulcet & Studio.

Our choice for that lazy Sunday afternoon fell upon Dulcet & Studio's chiffon cakes because the waiter behind the counter told us that Dulcet & Studio specializes in chiffon cakes. I chose the Strawberry Shortcake chiffon cake. 

My friend, on the other hand, chose Hazelnut Chiffon Cake. We note that the cake does not look triangular like how a slice of cake usually looks like. I wonder if that have to do with the making of chiffon cakes but oh well, we only know how to eat cake and not how to bake it so yeah...

Both chiffon cakes taste so good and we were pretty much enjoying our sweet Sunday afternoon at Dulcet & Studio.

If only we don't have to walk that far to Liang Court from Clarke Quay MRT station, we will visit this cafe much more often. #lazytowalk

Since we have been given encouragement from Emma Stone so I am gonna share the three best red velvet dishes which I have eaten so far in Singapore. If you are a fan of red velvet, you should give all of them a try at least once. Curious? Let's jump! 

1. Red Velvet Cupcake

Twelve Cupcakes is really making a storm when they are just opened in Singapore. It seems that everyone went crazy over cupcakes where it is common to see long snaking queue at each branch of Twelve Cupcakes. Each customer usually buys a dozen of cupcakes I start to wonder can someone really eat so many cupcakes? Hahaha. But then again, they may buy for a big family or big group of friends or colleagues, I should not jump to conclusion that fast. Having seen the popularity of Twelve Cupcakes, one have to wonder how good is these cupcakes. The red velvet cupcake in particular is one of the most popular cupcake in Twelve Cupcakes. My colleague gave me one on his last day in office and oh boy, it really tastes good (and I seldom give praise for cupcake). Twelve Cupcakes are located in various major shopping centres like Vivo City, 313 Somerset and Bugis Junction so you will be able to spot them easily during your shopping trip in Singapore.

2. Red Velvet Cake

Dean & Deluca came to Singapore few years back and everyone went hoo-ha because the brand is well-known in the US. It sells a lot of brunch items and desserts on its menu. The red velvet cake, in particular, taste pretty good in my book because it has a hint of coconut taste which goes well with the cream cheese and red velvet sponge. Dean & Deluca is situated at Orchard Central and Far East Square (near Telok Ayer MRT Station). 

3. Red Velvet Waffle

I have to say that the most unique creation of red velvet-based dish that I have ever seen is the red velvet waffle offered by Stateland Cafe. This cafe is situated in Bali Lane, which is within few minutes of walking distance from Bugis MRT. It is not easy to get a table in Stateland because the cafe is not that big but if you manage to secure yourself a table, you must give their Red Velvet Waffle a try. It taste so yummy (and sinful too) but it's better to share this dish with a friend. 

It was having a one-for-one cakes promotion if you are paying with UOB cards last October, so we had valid reason to order two cakes without being judged as glutton. Haha kidding, nobody would care actually. We ordered a slice of chocolate cake and a slice of red velvet cake. I could not remember the exact price but I think the cakes at Dean & Deluca costs 9 bucks on average.

The Chocolate Cake is very moist and well, chocolatey. Haha is there such a word? It tastes pretty rich and you will love it if you are a chocolate lover. 

Dean & Deluca sells one the best red velvet cake I have ever tasted. Red velvet cake uses a lot of coloring so I seldom order one. But the one sold at Dean & Deluca have a very nice taste when combined with the cream cheese and a bit of coconut. Worth the coloring I suppose? Hahaha.

If you want to try other cakes at Dean & Deluca, it also has the instagram-worthy Rainbow Cake (which was not available that day) which tastes pretty good. Another all time favourite cake from Dean & Deluca would be the Strawberry Short Cake which is filled with a lot of strawberries. Other than desserts, Dean & Deluca is also pretty well known for its all day brunch items so you may want to give their brunch menu a try. Dean & Deluca has another branch at Orchard Central too. 

At one glance, it seems that Dean & Deluca kinda looks like a provision stores (albeit, not for your usual groceries). However, Dean & Deluca also sells food and beverages at its counter. The food ranging from salad, pastries, and sandwiches. Beverages include coffees, teas and juices. On top of that, Dean & Deluca also provides American breakfast all day. And just like that, we were having breakfast for dinner. My American breakfast-for-dinner menu that day consists of sausages, scrambled egg, mushroom, tomato served with rye bread. 

While my friend's American breakfast-turn-dinner seems to be a combincation of cheesy jalapeno hotdog and a bit of greens at the side. Both the American breakfast dishes taste average.

Once we are done with our breakfast/ dinner, it is time to try out the cakes at Dean & Deluca. The cakes here do not come cheap at the average price of SGD 9 per slice. But since we have made our way here, we could not bear to leave without eating some cakes. Okay, make it two slices of cake please. The first cake that we tried is the Strawberry Shortcake. The amount of strawberry used in the cake is a lot and I love it because I am such a strawberry lover. 

Since I chose strawberry, my friend chose something to add to her cake instagram collection, the Rainbow cake. I don't really know how to appreciate a rainbow cake to be honest. While the cake is really awesome to post to Instagram, the taste itself...well...purely sugar and coloring? I just can't figure it out. But I think the rainbow cake served at Dean & Deluca is one of the better ones in Singapore. 

Size wise, I think pretty reasonable for SGD 9 nowadays? (why cakes are expensive in Singapore??)

Being a cat or not, Hello Kitty is a very sweet character created by Sanrio. As such Hello Kitty Sweets Cafe also has the cute feeling. For instance, the menu and the place mats are styled in pink. 

A complimentary Hello Kitty pudding is served to every guest dining in at Hello Kitty Sweets Cafe. Back in 2013, I got the Hello Kitty milk pudding. This time around, I got the Hello Kitty green tea pudding. Yum!

There is a minimum order of NTD300 imposed on every customer. A tea cake set plus a drink will definitely exceed NTD300 easily. I ordered the green tea and red bean roll cake set. The roll cake is served with strawberries on top and two chocolate macarons at the side. The plate where they put the roll cake on has Hello Kitty decoration on it. In green tea powder. 

The green tea ice blended comes with the tea cake set. It looks cute although it does not necessarily has any Hello Kitty in it. It tastes kinda too sweet for my liking though. 

On peak hours (like weekends), there is usually a queue spotted at Hello Kitty Sweets Cafe at Zhongxiao Fuxing in Taipei. However, when we came on a weird timing on a weekday (around 3pm-ish), we did not need to queue to get a table. Sweet!

Patisserie G offers a lot of yummy-looking cakes. Is it just me or the cakes here are mostly round in shapes? Well there is a reason for that which happens to be the name behind the alphabet "G". These elaborate cakes which are layered with cream are referred to as "gateaux".

I forget what is this cute little thing is called so I am just gonna improvise and name it myself. Let's call it the dotty G. Dotty G is glazed with caramel on the outside but on the inside it's chocolatey. Yummy! =)

These pretty little Gateaux are not cheap but taste-wise, they are delicious. We also love the ambience of the cafe which is quite cozy in general.

My Little Spanish Place also has its own Spanish cured meat station. 

We've never tried Spanish cured meats before so we ordered Tabla de Embutidos which is a selection of Spanish cured meats and sausages (S$21). The cured meats are served with olives. 

When you go to a Spanish restaurant, ordering tapas is a must. So we shared Croquetas (S$12). This is basically a croquette stuffed with Jamon (i.e. ham). They are so creamy, I love them!

For the mains, of course we ordered one of the paellas. We tried Paella de Marisco (S$42 for small or S$74 for medium) which is basically a seafood paella. It has prawns, squid, black mussels, clams and fish in it.

For our dessert, we went the chocolate route and ordered Tarta de Chocolate (S$14). Cute chocolate tartlets served with strawberry sorbet. Yum!
