Hello! Happy Chinese New Year! Wishing everyone a prosperous and abundant joy in the year of Rooster. I just came back from a short home-bound trip to Jakarta today and along the way, I realised that it has been a while since the last time I update my blog. Since I am in a pretty much happy mood (Tuesday blues has not kicked in yet for another hour I think), I feel like sharing my new-founding joy in eating Thai cuisine at Nakhon Kitchen in Holland Village.

If you come to visit Nakhon Kitchen during busy dining hours, chances are you have to queue up for a table. Yikes I know. If you hate queuing up like me, you may want to consider coming to Nakhon earlier like around 5.30PM-ish. We immediately got for ourselves a table of 2.

Since it was pretty humid back then, we were totally in the mood to enjoy iced Thai milk tea. The Thai milk tea served at Nakhon Kitchen is pretty good (if you find them to be too sweet, wait until the ice cubes melted and the drink will be just nice).

We ordered three dishes to share amongst the two of us. From left to right, a bowl of green curry chicken, stir friend kang kong belachan and deep fried squid served with Thai sauce.

I always wonder how to say kang kong in English. Some google reference mentions them as water spinach or whatever but there does not seem to be any on-point English word for this veggie. The dish, kang kong belachan (SGD 6) is a popular Asian veggie dish which rely heavily on the spices used to stir fry the kang kong with. Nakhon Kitchen serves a pretty fresh and yummy rendition of kangkong belachan. Yum!

The next dish, the green curry chicken (SGD 8) is actually nothing new in the Thai cuisine-world. If you don't like chicken, you can enjoy the green curry with either beef or prawn. The green curry is leaning toward the tangy and spicy taste but it is still considered mild enough for our tastebud, thankfully. Best to be eaten with hot white rice.

The last dish that we ordered is the deep fried squid with Thai chili sauce (SGD 10). Thai chili sauce is actually not spicy at all. In fact, it tastes kinda sweet. Like the sweet in the sweet and sour sauce. Haha. The deep fried squid is served with a lot of lettuces as garnish. Overall, this dish taste okay. Nothing can go wrong with anything deep-fried, I suppose.

Will definitely go back to Nakhon Kitchen to try out their other dishes like phad thai. Yum.

Situated in a hip area of Holland Village, D'Good Cafe has always been popular with the locals especially the students. When we visited the cafe, it was 80% occupied with students who come for a good meal, a discussion or just a nice good chat on a weekend afternoon. The cafe is not that big but I guess it has managed to utilise every nook to maximise the seating capacity.

Oh right, by the way the seating area is located at level 3 of the cafe and you need to self-order your food at level 2. The weather has been quite wacky in this tiny island and I need to dose myself up with some vitamin so for once, I decided not to order coffee and stick to apple fruit blended. It has a hint of tinge-ness which I did not really know from what, but I prefer the usual fruit juice, to be honest.

Collecting food proved to be a challenge if you are alone (my friend guarding our seats and belonging upstairs) as you need to collect your own food. When my hands are full holding the plates, I suddenly wished I had extra hand to open the door leading to the seating area. Thankfully, a not-bad-looking angel helped me to open the door. Once my omelette toast landed safely on the table, it's time for some photo-taking and finally, eating time! I love eggs so I seldom have bad experience with whatever brunch items involving eggs. This one is not an exception.

While my friend's plate looks kinda like a mess, but that cannot be helped because the dish is called Banger & Mash. The sauce itself is pretty good but I don't really like the filling of the beef sausage (the other one supposedly pork).

Maybe I should try their coffee next time because reviews say that D'Good Cafe serves a pretty good caffeine-fix. Oh well, until next time then.

1. Take MRT to the nearest MRT station, Holland Village

2. Walk for 1-2 minutes from Exit B to 273 Holland Avenue #02-01

I seriously having a question about my faith and in a dire condition of losing heart. But I guess in time like this, you have more reasons to go to church. To hear the God's words.

The sermon kinda made me realise not to believe in my current changing moods and circumstances and instead put my hope on Jesus alone. I suppose changing moods and circumstances are similar to the view from the window bus. It's keep changing and yet, we keep moving forward. I hope what I'm wishing for will come true soon.

Meanwhile, there's no point in mopping while waiting. We may as well be merry and jolly and bring our friends out to have a good meal. How about a good meal at one of the cafe(s) in Holland Village?

1. Breko Cafe

Breko Cafe sells mostly Western food (like the mains, the burgers, and the pastas) and desserts (cakes! yum!). It is located in the main area of Holland Village called Lorong Mambong. It serves a yummy chargrilled salmon with sides. The pasta salad taste good too as a side dish.

2. MU Parlour

MU Parlour is another cafe located at Lorong Mambong where you can have a nice burger. We also had a chance to try their cakes. The chocolate cake does not disappoint although it is nearly impossible to dislike a chocolate cake.

3. The Daily Scoop Ice Cream Cafe

If you feel like enjoying dessert only while talking to your friends, you can go to the Daily Scoop Ice Cream Cafe and pick your ice cream flavor. The cafe is so popular we barely got a seat here. It may be a tad challenging if you come in a big group. If you don't mind waiting, the ice cream sold at the Daily Scoop is really enjoyable. They have so many different kind of flavors, I have spent quite a long time in front of the ice cream display to ponder upon my choice. My choice of ice cream flavor finally fell on the Rum and Raisin. Yummy!
