Wandering Fel

Last Wednesday, my friend told me that’s she was the second from last person who managed to order from the Daily Cut at 8.20PM. She told me that the queue for the Daily Cut at the basement level of One Raffles Place was so long even after 8PM. So when I saw a moderate level of queue at 8.10PM the next day, I quickly joined the queue. Oh gosh, I think I’m being peer-pressured somehow but then again, the bowl from the Daily Cut taste really better than other joints that I have tried. 

This time around, I decided to choose different base since I have chosen sweet potato before. I was kinda hungry after gym (which kinda beat the purpose of exercise since I just eat back what I shed, but whatever), so I wanted to eat my favourite staple, rice. The Daily Cut gives healthier version of rice though, Brown Rice. 

My order that night is: A petite bowl of brown rice + broccoli + oyster mushroom + teriyaki chicken thigh + crushed tortilla chips + chimicurri sauce. I wanted to try Japanese curry sauce but they ran out already. Oh well. I should just be grateful I still managed to get a bowl. Hahaha. 

With the help of my Daiso kitchen scale + myfitnesspal app, here goes the calorie:

60 grams of teriyaki chicken thigh: 78 cal

181 grams of broccoli: 51 cal

70 grams of mushroom: 20 cal

120 grams of brown rice: 156 cal

Total calorie for the above order is: 305 cal (hmm, this is probably because the staff did not give me a lot of chicken because they are running out of stock). 

I wonder what will the last person who made order got in their bowl. Maybe more base and lesser protein hahaha. Morale of the story is, let’s just order from the Daily Cut when the sun is still out there. But on a positive note, this will be a great food intake when you are limiting your calorie intake.  

I can’t believe it happened to me but I’m having a nostalgic longing feeling toward the food at Raffles Place MRT. Well, it’s probably because I have not been there for months when I am unemployed. I mean, who will go to CBD when not working right. The crowd can be madness at times. But there are many dinner options available at the area near the MRT station such as the basement level of One Raffles Place and Chevron House. I know that the Daily Cut seems to be the most favourite amongst Raffles Place office crowd at the moment with its constant bee-line queue at both lunch and dinner times. But this time, I wanna try another type of DIY box from Urban Mix. Similar to the Daily Cut, the ordering start by taking the ordering chit and tick whatever options you’d like to take in your box.

There are two options with the price of SGD 9 for small mix (1 base, 0.5 protein, 1 side salad, 3 toppings, 1 sauce) and SGD 12 for big mix (1 base, 1 protein, 2 side salads, 3 toppings, 1 sauce). I chose the small mix and I think the combination of kimchi fried rice and beer batter dory will be good although I never try this combination before. If you don’t like to scratch your head so much on which item to tick, you can opt for the Urban Mix’s signature bowls too. They have 4 kind of signature bowls such as Gangnam Style, Texas Cowboy, Viva Mexico, L.A. Crossfit and Little Tokyo. I forgot to check how much of this signature bowl costs but I think it will cost around SGD 12?

The choices of the protein seem to be more interesting than the Daily Cut although this probably because I have been eating the Daily Cut for a bit too often. Urban Mix offers some items which I don’t see at any other places such as Korean pork belly and BBQ pulled pork. Pork ftw oink oink. Oops, but today I’m fated with dory not pork.

Drinks are available too from cokes to the fancy coconut water. Hmm, has anyone tried Mexican cola before? Does it take different from the usual cola?

The counter staff was very generous last night, she informed me that by right I should only get 1 piece of beer batter dory because after all I’m only entitled 0.5 protein in my SGD 9 small mix. But she told me that she would give me 2 pieces of beer batter fish instead. Yeay! Overall I love the combination that I chose and turns out the roasted sesame sauce works so good with the beer batter dory and kimchi fried rice. The crab mayo salad tastes yummy too without any weird tangy feel. So yupz, I will definitely be back here whenever I crave for something from Raffles Place.

Monday is so cruel. If you think the two days of not working is enough to gear you up against Monday, oh boy, you may be in for a ride. Someone decided to ask so many questions for a task which is due today and obviously you have to battle the questions yourself but thanks God, He is an ever present help in trouble and before I knew it, the task is done nicely so that I could meet up with my friend to celebrate the end of Monday. Since none of us has the energy to walk so far from our office, we decided to have some tapas at Rookery, which is situated just opposite of Lau Pa Sat.

I have cutting down on my dinner cost by making lunch appointments instead. There are so many restaurants in Singapore which offers lunch menu, which usually has cheaper dishes compared to dinner menu. Sometimes you don't feel like having a lunch appointment at the food court because you want to have a comfortable chit chat with your friend. But at the same time, you also feel like saving money. The solution is to dine in the restaurants at lunch time. Haha.

We are going to eat lunch at Mad Poet which is located just beside &SONS at Far East Square. Mad Poet offers a various kind of lunch time dishes from pasta to sandwiches. 

I do not remember how many times I have included losing weight as a new year resolution. I always over-eat in December (due to all those festivities and everything) and hence, go into repentance mode in January (not always working though). If you are thinking of going into the same repentance mode in January, I guess you are finally thinking of turning into salad as one of your dining options. If you happen to live in Singapore, good news for you as there are a tons of salad shop around the country. One of them is Cedele.

I really love having a cake date! And it is a good thing that there is another branch of Dean & Deluca at Far East Square, which happens to be near my office in Raffles Place. Dean & Deluca sells one of the best cakes that I have ever tasted in Singapore. It does not come at a cheap price though. *cry*

After joining my new workplace for two months, I have officially gained weight. This does not sound very good indeed but our office is filled with chocolates and cookies and chips. Well I suppose the occasional sugary drinks like bubble tea does not help but working a 9 to 5 job is so blah despite the necessity to pay the bills. So, we do need all those small comforting things like food, right?

Okay, enough about my self-denial. If you are in the same boat with me, why don't we start checking out those eating places which claim to sell healthy food. For today's menu, let's try Healthy Soba Iki at One Raffles Place. We reached the restaurant at 12.00 and thankfully there are still a lot of seats available. 30 minutes later, you are not gonna get any seat here or anywhere else in Raffles Place (unless the place sells yucky or overpriced food).



I was quite confused when I see this menu on the table. Does eating healthy means eating toppings only nowadays? Later on we realised that the real menu is put up near the cashier. 

"Where should we eat?" is always the question every lunch time on a weekday. If you come out from your office after 12, chances are you will not be able to find a lot of places with available seats. This is even more challenging when you come with a big number of people. This happened to us at China Square Central, a popular eating place amongst people who are working in Raffles Place or Chinatown area. It was already 12.30 when we came out from office and as expected, most of the restaurants are packed. However, this Vietnamese restaurant who claims to serve authentic Vietnamese food, Viet Express, seems to have a lot of seats available. We decided to take out bet and eat here.

To tell you the truth, this rave-most team lunch at Peach Garden only happened once during my 5 years career. I guess that is understandable since the 8 course lunch menu at Peach Garden kinda costs a bomb, which my big boss probably finds it hard to stomach after our team grow. Hahaha.

Does the food match the price tag? Let's see...

1. Cereal and Wasabi Prawn

The appetiser has already blown our table away. Both prawns taste so good. You don't have to worry if you don't like wasabi because I myself don't eat wasabi and yet, find the wasabi prawn to be tasty! I didn't feel the usual stinginess that I usually feel from eating wasabi.

Located in a row of shophouses at Telok Ayer area, I often miss out this quaint restaurant called Vanilla Bar & Cafe until my colleague brought me here. The ambience inside the restaurant screams cozy and it's like having your meal in one of the room set by IKEA. 

It's not everyday we are going for a celebration on a weekday lunchtime. But today is different, it's my best friend/ colleague's birthday. So there's a reason to celebrate and hence, there's a reason to go to finally go to Level 33. 

Level 33 is a name of a restaurant (and not an office level in our office building, obviously) located at Marina Bay Financial Centre, Tower 1. There is a lift at level 1 of tower 1 which goes directly to the restaurant at level 33. The restaurant offers a semi-buffet set menu at lunch time (i.e. executive set lunch). Basically when you selected a main course, it comes with an access to the buffet bar for the cold meats like salmon, ham, smoked beef and prawns.

While we were wandering around Boat Quay, we spotted Smiths who claims to serve the authentic British fish and chips. Having studied in Newcastle before, I am quite interested to see an authentic British fish and chips in the island of Singapore. After psyching my walking buddy, we decided to give it a try.
