Wandering Fel

We could not secure any table for two, so we had no choice but waited for a while at the bar seats while ordering our coffee for a start. 

15 minutes later, we finally managed to get a table at the al fresco area. While the idea to have an al-fresco concept is great, it does not work that well in this hot and humid Singapore. Well, stuck with no other choice, we decided to just get the seat anyway because we could not wait to browse the menu and ordered some food. 

For a start, while I expect the coffee art to be fancier, the mocha tastes great and it goes well with the cookie. 

A lot of dishes were already sold out at 2.30-ish on Sunday afternoon. Crazy, I know, but I guess that proves that Club Street Social is really popular here in Singapore. I felt like eating omelette that day so I order a simple omelette which is served on sourdough toasts with a bit of salad at the sides. The egg tastes superb. It's one of the better egg dishes which I have tried in Singapore.

My friend tried out another rendition of egg dish, the Corned Beef. The corned beef are mixed together with bits of potatoes while the egg is poached to perfection. My friend's dish is also served with sourdough toast. I don't really like sourdough but I guess they are supposed to be healthier choice of bread. 

One hour before the restaurant closed, we asked if we could move inside because the weather is unbearably hot and we still wanted to chill here (after all the walk that we have gone through to reach the restaurant from Raffles Place MRT). We ordered tiramisu but dessert does not seem to be the forte of Club Street Social. The tiramisu tastes so so but at least it does not cost a bomb like the one sold by Awfully Chocolate.

The weather is crazy hot these past few weeks so I need to refresh myself with a sip a glass of Iced Mocha. 

Y prefers her usual hot coffee though. As what she said before, the coffee served at Dapper Coffee is fantastic. Kinda reminds me of the coffee that the cafes in Australia usually serves. 

I ordered one savoury item from the lunch menu while Y stick to the sweet brunch item. We decided to share both dishes. My order is the Nori Pesto Aglio Olio which seems like a fusion of Japanese and Italian. There is a touch of onsen egg and alfafa sprout at the top of the pasta. This pasta taste so good. The aglio olio is just at the correct texture without being too oily. I've never thought onsen egg can go well with pasta. 

Y's order looks like a beautiful sweet mess on a plate. It's called the Berry Yoghurt Waffle Croissant. The waffle is not the usual waffle as it is really made from croissant. We are not sure whether this dish should be categorised as healthy or sinful but anyway, we both love it. One portion can be too much for one person so it's best for sharing I guess. 

Overall, our lunch experience at Dapper Coffee has been wonderful. The cafe is not that big so make sure to come early during peak hours (e.g. weekday lunch hour).

From the outside, Sarnies kinda looks like a typical hole-in-the-wall cafe just like those cafes in Australia. It serves coffees and food (salad and sandwiches). The price for the salad bowl sold in Sarnies is in the range of SGD 15 to SGD 17. The reason for the high price is because of its size. I think ladies can share a bowl of salad and still come out with full stomach. 

My friend ordered smoked salmon salad. It's served with lemon tartar sauce.

I have a craving for chicken that day so I ordered Chicken Pesto Salad. I enjoyed the salad but half way down the bowl, I started to struggle trying to finish the salad. Both of us ended up not able to finish our food. The next time we come to Sarnies, we should probably just order one salad. 

If you are coming to Sarnies during lunch on a weekday, you may want to come earlier than noon because the cafe does not have a lot of seats. The cafe provides takeaway though.

Club Meatballs is a restaurant located in the hip area of Telok Ayer, China Square Central. It serves a humble food called meatballs in two ways. You can have the meatballs in your subs (just like Subway's I guess?) or in your salads. Meatballs salad, hmm, now that sounds pretty good too. Club Meatballs serve different food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But since we are working nearby Telok Ayer, we only manage to try the lunch menu. Let's see how it goes. 

When my friend told me about meatball salads, I kinda thought that the ingredients of the salad have been fixed by the restaurant but turns out, we can do a mix and match of ingredients for our salad. The meatballs are part of the proteins choice available for the salad. The price of the salad will depend on what kind of ingredients you pick because each ingredients has their own price tag. There are a variety of different flavours for the meatballs from wagyu & rosemary to salmon & coriander balls. My first lunch buddy salad choice are salmon & coriander meatballs, guacamole, walnuts with basil and pine nuts pesto dressing. Seriously I don't know if her choice qualifies as salad despited the amount of greens in it. XD

My second lunch buddy's choice for his salad bowl, pork and fennel balls with baby spinach and salsa verde dressing. The salsa verde kinda looks like sambal (re: a type of chili dressing). I prefer the pesto dressing because the dressing for 2nd lunch buddy's salad tastes kinda weird. 

I don't feel like eating salad so I chose the meatball subs. Turns out the subs can be replaced by wrap so well, I chose to replace because I thought meatball subs will make the food looks like Subway's food. LOL. The meatballs chosen are spinach and falafel meatballs although after ordering a number of meatballs, I can't really differentiate them anymore. 

The third lunch buddy decided to keep it as meatball subs and she chose ciabatta bread to go with the meatballs. Wagyu & coriander was the flavour that she chose for her subs. The ciabatta were pretty hard to bite (not that the bread is naturally known for its softness but nonetheless...).

The meatballs served at Club Meatballs are pretty tasty although I cannot really decide which way is the best way of enjoying the meatballs. I guess the choice depends on each individual's preference.

I just had pasta the other day so this time, I ordered Philly Styled Cheese Steak. The sandwich is served with a few bits of tortilla chips. Mad Poet does not put a lot of beef steak in that sandwich but taste-wise it is not bad. I wonder if the lack of meat is the main reason of why they are able to keep the price at S$10. XD

After lunch, we visited the nearby Spinelli to continue our chat. I guess my lunch plan to save cost did not really happen that day with an extra order of hazelnut twist at Spinelli. 

Where do you usually go for lunch? Are you the type who save cost over lunch or dinner? I realise it is getting harder and harder to save money on food with all the rising costs. U_U.

The food selection at Five though is not as many as what you can find in other food court like Kopitiam, Food Republic or Food Junction. The price at this food court is also gearing toward the higher end. I guess you can't help it since the food court is equipped with air condition and it is located in the CBD area of Singapore. The food court also adopts the concept of do-it-yourself. Well, you don't have to cook your own lunch (thankfully) but you can order and pay the food via machine which is installed at every stall in Five.

After figuring out how and what to order, I ordered for myself a Korean lunch box from Gogi Grill. The lunch box consists of kimchi fried rice with bulgogi pork, fried egg and salad. It tastes pretty good actually. Well it better tastes good because it costs me SGD 8. XD

How to go to Five: 

The nearest MRT to Five will be either Chinatown MRT, Clarke Quay MRT or Telok Ayer MRT. I usually walk from Telok Ayer MRT though because my office was located near the MRT station. From Telok Ayer MRT, go cross the street until you reach Bloomberg office. From there, you can continue going right and you will eventually see Five at your left side. 

It was having a one-for-one cakes promotion if you are paying with UOB cards last October, so we had valid reason to order two cakes without being judged as glutton. Haha kidding, nobody would care actually. We ordered a slice of chocolate cake and a slice of red velvet cake. I could not remember the exact price but I think the cakes at Dean & Deluca costs 9 bucks on average.

The Chocolate Cake is very moist and well, chocolatey. Haha is there such a word? It tastes pretty rich and you will love it if you are a chocolate lover. 

Dean & Deluca sells one the best red velvet cake I have ever tasted. Red velvet cake uses a lot of coloring so I seldom order one. But the one sold at Dean & Deluca have a very nice taste when combined with the cream cheese and a bit of coconut. Worth the coloring I suppose? Hahaha.

If you want to try other cakes at Dean & Deluca, it also has the instagram-worthy Rainbow Cake (which was not available that day) which tastes pretty good. Another all time favourite cake from Dean & Deluca would be the Strawberry Short Cake which is filled with a lot of strawberries. Other than desserts, Dean & Deluca is also pretty well known for its all day brunch items so you may want to give their brunch menu a try. Dean & Deluca has another branch at Orchard Central too.
