Singapore Travel: One way lane called Ann Siang Hill

Ann Siang Hill is a small hill and the name of a one-way road located near Amoy Food Market. The road derived its name after Chia Ann Siang, a wealthy Malacca-born Hokkien Chinese sawmiller. The full history of Ann Siang Hill can be read at the information board set up by Singapore Tourism Board just right at the entrance leading to Ann Siang Hill.

We went to Ann Siang Hill by climbing up the staircases right beside the temple at Amoy Street. From the top of the staircases, you can see the behind the scene view of shophouses in Telok Ayer Street. The aircon stack is kinda amazing. Hahaha.

Right behind the conservative shophouses area, lies Raffles Place, the corporate jungle.

Ann Siang Hill used to be a stretch of lane which is filled with the traditional home of clan associations and exclusive social clubs. Nowadays, Ann Siang Hill has elegantly restored shophouses which are used for restaurants and hotels.

A door to some kind of club. The door looks like it leads to another world like Alice in Wonderland kind of set up. Other than clubs, there are a lot of boutique hotels like The Club Hotel located at Ann Siang Hill, and these hotels usually have a rooftop bar. You can check it out the hotel rates here.

The traditional tiles seriously reminded me of my grandma's house. But I heard my aunt has renovated some parts of the house so not sure if they are keeping the tiles.

Remember about my food post at PS. Cafe at Palais Renaissance? There is one PS. Cafe located at Ann Siang Hill too. However, as this branch put importance on serenity and quiet ambience, I heard that no kids are allowed to dine at this branch.
