Semarang Eats: Toko Oen, family restaurant in town
Toko Oen is one of the oldest family-owned restaurants which is still being run and managed by the direct descendants of the founders. The founder has established the restaurant way back in the colonial era of the Dutch.
Toko Oen serves variety of food ranging from appetiser, main course, dessert and cookies. Its traditional cookies are quite famous among the locals too. Just by looking at the stack of cookie boxes makes me drool.
As we just had our chicken soup for lunch over at Soto Ayam Pak Man, we ordered mostly desserts. First on the menu is the heart-shaped waffles. <3<3
Other than the cookies, I've been looking forward to try out Toko Oen's home-made ice creams. This is the Oen's symphony ice cream which consists of 5 scoop of ice cream in different flavor topped by whipped cream and syrup. This ice cream is definitely best consumed together with a group of friends. Unless you are an ice cream lover.
If you prefer more traditional kind of ice cream, a bar of tutti frutti is calling for you. Served just like how the restaurant served its Dutch customers in the olden days.
