Taiwan Travel: Pier-2 Art Center, Kaohsiung
On one sunny Saturday, my friend and I went to visit Kaohsiung. During our visit, we wanted to visit Pier-2 Art Center which is a quite famous tourist attraction in Kaohsiung. So first thing first, we made our way to Yanchengpu Station.
Just beside the station exit, there is a weird cat statue out there. Is that cat trying to welcome us? Hehe
There are a lot of road sign pointing to Pier-2 Art Center so we managed to find our way there without getting lost...many times. Btw, this is our first time seeing Gong Cha in Taiwan. I've never found Gong Cha stall in Taipei. Probably I don't know where to look.
Okay, so what's the deal about Pier-2 Art Center? For a start, it is used to be a warehouse (kinda explains why the setting looks like this) located in Kaohsiung Harbour. The warehouse was built during the time of Japanese colonization.
Now, the warehouses and the outer space of the warehouses are used for art exhibitions, cultural and creative hotspot for the local artiste.
The open air art is decorated in all kind of arts you can ever imagine. Actually it is kinda fun to have a section of the city which is turned into an art hub.
Hmm, is this a symbol of unity and strength? Quite an interesting art exhibit, although I may not understand the concept and the meaning behind it. Hahaha.
As mentioned above, the easiest way to reach Pier-2 Art Center is by taking the subway to Yanchengpu Station. Proceed to exit 1 and follow the road sign. And if you are taking the subway, you should stop by Formosa Boulevard Station because the station is simply beautiful. If you visit the station at night, you can also visit the nearby nightmarket, Liuhe Night Market.
