10D9N Spring Japan Trip: Ginkaku-ji Temple, Kyoto
Visiting Ginkaku-ji Temple is always mentioned in every travel recommendation on things to do in Kyoto. Ginkaku-ji Temple is located pretty far from the city centre of Kyoto though and hence, we only visited Ginkaku-ji Temple towards the end of our day. Right before the sunset. If you are visiting Ginkaku-ji Temple in spring, you may want to make a stop at Philosopher's Path before coming to Ginkaku-ji Temple as the path is beautiful in pink.
There is an admission of 500 JPY to pay at the entrance of Ginkaku-ji Temple. Do note that the temple ground closes pretty early at 5pm from March to November and 4.30pm from December to February.
Ginkaku-ji Temple which is also known as "Silver Pavilion" was built together with Kinkaku-ji Temple (or Rokuon-ji Temple, its formal name) which is also known as "Golden Pavilion".
The temple is known for its beauty and due to its popularity, there is a walking trail made for visitors around the zen garden in the temple ground.
The problem with visiting a popular temple during peak travelling period is that you don't really have a peaceful time enjoying the walk in the garden because you have to throng the trail with the crowd. Oh well, I guess sometimes in life you just have to learn to adapt to whatever situation and be grateful that at least, you are there. After all, the garden and the temple are still beautiful no matter what the situation.
In the middle of the walking trail, the trail will start to ascend. Even though it may be tiring to climb up the trail, you will be welcomed by a fantastic view over the entire temple compound and the rest of the city. Not to mention that the air up there is great too.
If you are wondering which spot is the best place to take picture of Ginkaku-ji Temple and the zen garden, well, the best spot is when you are making a descend after enjoying the city viewpoint. There will be a section right near the pond to take a beautiful shot of both the temple and the garden.
